Healthcare quality and patient safety are fundamental pillars of modern clinical practice. This course provides a structured, practical introduction to healthcare quality management aligned with core CPHQ principles.
Participants will develop a systems-based understanding of quality, recognizing that most clinical errors arise from process failures rather than individual performance. The course emphasizes the importance of delivering care that is safe, effective, timely, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered (STEEEP framework).
Through real clinical scenarios, participants will explore common sources of patient harm such as communication failures, delayed escalation, and workflow inefficiencies. The course introduces key quality improvement methodologies, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Plan–Do–Study–Act (PDSA) cycles, and structured incident-to-learning frameworks.
A strong focus is placed on data-driven decision-making. Participants will learn how to design meaningful Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), interpret run charts and control charts, and differentiate between outcome, process, and balancing measures.
The course also highlights leadership roles in building a culture of safety, promoting accountability, and supporting continuous improvement across healthcare systems.
By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with practical tools to identify system gaps, design measurable improvement initiatives, and contribute to safer, higher-quality patient care.
